This “Planting” the sisterhood of the travelling plants continued to grow with many wonderful people taking plants home to help them through their formative years.

We again had lots of plants returned ,looking glorious and much larger. They helped decorate the forest Woodfordia tent. Many of the first seedling have already been to the big festival and some found their way into the ground when more established plants were needed for some planting projects.

We again had bonsai pots made for the plants with the help of the amazingly talented Linda and her friends at the Woodfordia potting group. If you created one of these beautiful pots and would like to arrange collection, please check them out at the pottery page. The first group of bonsai pots and plants have been decorating the festival shop for the last three years and look great.

This years plants were 2 figs ficus superba and macrophylla, a Lilly pilly syzygium luehmanni and a lily Palm  cordyline rubra. We lost all our small figs in the nursery when one weekend they were all eaten ?by rats so we’re lucky that we had many sisterhood figs returned to fill the gap.

The new nursery has been slowly progressing ,the shade house is up and logistical problems with the irrigation are being solved and we are confident it will be up and running for the next festival.

The old nursery area is very overcrowded and we are grateful to those of you who have continued to look after your pot plants till their new home is finished

Welcome to the Sisterhood

Now you have your travelling plant you will need to start caring for them.

While they are in their tubes you will need to be very careful with keeping up enough water for them.

The myoporum  boninence were only recently potted on and need to stay in the tube for another month but the other plants can get planted on whenever you feel like it.
If your not sure what to do or wants pots and potting mix you can come to treehuggers on the last Sunday of the months and we can help you.
For everyone else you will need a slightly bigger pot and some potting mix. You water the tube .then squeeze the pot to loosen it. Gently hold the plant upside down and ease the plant out. Do not just grab it by the leaves and pull as it will hurt its feeling and possibly more. Better to destroy the pot than hurt the plant.
You will have already put some potting mix in the bottom of you new pot. The tall leggy plants like the figs need to be deep stemmed planted ,that is burying the stem in soil but the other plants try and get there present height at soil level.
Then put potting mix around the plant till the pot is full. Remove air by tapping the pot to let the soil settle.
Now you can give the plant a good water and keep up the water for the first few weeks while he or she settles in to their new home.
Remember when choosing potting mix to get a well draining porous mix just using only soil from the garden will cause the soil to compact and then shrink back from the sides and will slow down growth.
